FROM HOUSTON TO LITTLE ROCK AND IN MEMPHIS…I’VE INTERVIEWED THEM ALL!
I was on the Newsday website Monday night reading a link of all the famous people who have died in the month of July in 2006 and I realized over several years I’ve interviewed a third of the list. On that list: Ken Lay – the founder of Enron, Win Rockefeller – the former Billionaire Lt. Governor of Arkansas and soap actor Benjamin Hendrickson from “As The World Turns”. Now here’s the background. I interviewed Ken Lay in Houston during his many press conferences outside the federal courthouse during the Enron criminal trial. I also had a chance to converse on camera several times with Winthrop Rockefeller while I was a reporter in Little Rock and he was lieutenant governor…And I met Benjamin Hendrickson while visiting WCBS in New York and interviewed him in Memphis while I worked there. What are the chances of that. Interviewing 3 high profile people who all have died in the same month of July. Just a thought for The Insite and you…
Lay died as a result of a heart condition.
Rockefeller died from cancer.
Hendrickson took his own life.
The 6th and final season of Good Times will be released Tuesday at your local video stores around Houston so make sure you get in line and get yours. I know I will get mine because The Insite is off from work until Wednesday. Good looking out to T-Dub who reminded me. Usually I remind him about the Good Times release dates but as he said bluntly “…you slipping”. By the way, I have every season and #6 will complete the collection…Dynomite!!!!!!!!!!
GETTING TO WORK LIKE A ROCKET!
Mayor Bill White announced Monday with Johnson Space Center (JSC) Director Mike Coats unveiling a 23% reduction in commute times along NASA Parkway since implementation of a flexible work plan for employees. “This further validates that flexible working hours pay off, saving commuters both time and money,” said Mayor White. “Other companies will see how this worked for the Space Center, and hopefully follow their lead.” JSC’s Maxiflex allows JSC’s 3,300+ employees to work with their managers in designing work options that maintain or increase productivity while providing options such as compressed work schedules. The Maxiflex option is aligned with the goals of the Flexible Workplace Initiative.
“We take pride in offering our employees such flexibility,” said Mike Coats, Johnson Space Center Director. “It’s a win-win when we also make a positive impact on the surrounding communities.”
This change in work schedule decreased the number of cars on the road and shifted those traveling during peak drive times to off-peak drive times. The preliminary indicators from a study of the program before and after its implementation suggest significant improvement along NASA Parkway (from I-45 to SH-146) for an average reduction of 5.2 minutes or 23%. The average travel time was cut from 22.7 minutes to 17.5 minutes after the program began. (Data was gathered using tube counts and measured travel times.) The study follows a similar pilot program initiated and measured for several hundred Duke Energy employees in the Galleria/Westheimer area earlier this summer. That program was found to have cut a cumulative 6,480 minutes off of peak-hour drive times.

SAYING NO TO THE DEVELOPER IN NORTHEAST HOUSTON AND THEY’RE READY TO FIGHT!
The Iniste has learned council members Jarvis Johnson and Peter Brown are preparing to go to war to stop a proposed development in Northeast Houston. A private developer is hoping to build affordable housing at Wayside subdivision. However, councilman Johnson says the development lacks key factors to be truly affordable. He says there will be a mud tax which could lead to foreclosures on those who can’t afford the rising rates. He also says there won’t be enough green space or parks for children to play. Opponebts of the development also say there won’t be enough commercial development around the proposed community to serve the residents. Meanwhile, The Insite has seen documentation showing the city’s administration has supported the development in the past. However, sources say Johnson and Brown have gathered an arsenal to convince the administration otherwise. In the meantime, we’ve also heard at least one high profile attorney has been making rounds at City Hall this week to try and get support for the developer. Calls to the developer for a comment in the past have not been returned. Keep reading the Insite for details…

MYSPACE.COM – ARE YOUR KIDS ALLOWED?
Okay, folks I’ve been away for a hot minute due to the pink eye so I let the kids have it on the computer…On yesterday a friend of the family (13 year old female) came over to use the computer. She said she wanted to check her site out on myspace…So I talked to her about what I saw on MSNBC about adults preying on children. Afterwards I asked if her parents were aware that she visited and posted on the site and she acknowledged they knew and that only her friends could view her page. The question of the day is does your child have a myspace webpage? Do you think it’s safe? And if so, at for what age?? Do you monitor you kids internet activities?? Do you agree/disagree with them having chatroom conversations??? Would you let them post on the Isiah Carey’s “INSITE”?
By the way Isiah are you still posting on myspace??
