A bizarre story unfolding at Baton Rouge’s Metro Airport right now.
The airport has been shut down, after lightning hit the runway. WAFB 9 News has learned the lightning strike happened just after 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, and left a hole about eight inches wide and three inches deep in the airport’s only operational runway. The other runway is closed for renovations. Until that can be repaired, which will take another hour or so, the airport has been shut down. Flights heading into Baton Rouge are being diverted to other airports.
