THE LIFE AND EXPERIENCES OF A HOUSTON POLICE OFFICER!

IT’S HARD OUT HERE FOR A COP!

I have several cop contacts out there and once in a while they share their experiences with me. They make it perfectly clear it’s not easy being a HPD officer. Here’s a day in the life of:

HPD OFFICER: Had a scary one last night.

I saw a car pulling out of Knuckleheads Sports Bar (2600 Winrock near Westheimer) and heard tires squealing. I figure it’s a drunk and go after him. A man runs from the parking lot and tells me he had just been carjacked and it was the car I was going after.
The suspect couldn’t figure out how to release the emergency brake of the 2007 Impala he had just stolen. So he is running from me at 10 mph leaving skid marks behind. He stops at 6300 Ella Lee and fumbles for something in the car before bailing out. As he exits the car, he drops his 9mm, which we later find to be loaded and have the hammer locked back.
He ran off and I chased him on foot until he entered a dark area and we set up a perimeter. We never found him but recovered the car in good shape for the complainant.
Scary to think this guy was probably going to take a shot at me.
On another note. Officers who were up close to the command staff during the funeral were stated many of the command staff were not wearing their vests, as required. Many officers fainted due to the heat/vests.
