MATT STILES TAKES CITY OF HOUSTON OUT OF DARK AGES!

HIS REPORTS MADE A DIFFERENCE IN CITY GOVERNMENT!

Houston Chronicle city hall reporter Matt Stiles received quite an acknowledgement from the council’s ethics committee for his effort in helping modernize the process of filing campaign finance reports. Ethics committee chair Carol Alvarado says it was Stiles reports on the lack of an electronic filing system for finance reports that prompted the committee to explore the issue. Stiles only smiled when his name was called during the Monday afternoon meeting while still taking notes. The city Information Technology director Richard Lewis says he was embarrassed that Houston was behind several major cities in updating the campaign finance process. Currently, political candidates file their reports by hand using lots of paper. The ethics committee was told by staff the city’s new hi-tech system, thanks to Stiles reports, could be in place within 6 weeks.
