Houston City Council voted Wednesday to toughen the current smoking ban ordinance. The new ordinance will ban smoking in most bars. The new ordinance does allow smokers to light up in outdoor patios and cigar bars and other bars that make most of its money through tobacco sales. Houston’s current ban applies to restaurants, but smoking is allowed in bars in restaurants only if the smoke doesn’t drift into the dining area. The fine for smoking in a prohibited area could be up to $2,000. This new law goes into effect in September 2007. Do you agree with this decision?
