Roy Morales is the latest candidate to through his hat into the ring for the At Large Council seat left vacant by Gibbs. His bio is below:
Retired Lt. Col., Roy Morales, will seek Houston City Council At-Large Position 3. Morales is a highly decorated military veteran and businessman, with more than 23 years of honorable service to our country. Colonel Morales is a summa cum laude graduate with a B.A. from the University of Texas at Dallas, a B.S. from Chapman University and a M.S. degree from the Air Force Institute of Technology. While assigned to the Joint Command and Control Warfare Center, he convinced the Office of Secretary of Defense to integrate new technologies into national strategic plans to achieve military dominance. Working with the National Security Agency, Defense Intelligence Agency and the other military services, he developed the US military information warfare strategic policy and planning orders to defeat terrorism. Morales was also one of Houston’s top Homeland Security officials.
He ran for Houston City Council in 2005 against Council Member Peter Brown nearly forcing Brown into a run-off. In this campaign, Morales was endorsed by over 100 precinct chairs, conservative coalitions, business associations, police organizations, military veterans and diverse ethnic associations.
Last March, many community activists and leaders encouraged Morales to run for Houston City Council At-Large 3. Since this position is now unfilled he continues to receive many calls asking him to run for this important position.
Colonel Morales continues to work across our community. He is listening to voters’ issues and concerns. He has structured solutions to Houston’s most pressing problems. His goals for this office are the following:
1. Fight Crime – Crime has escalated in our city. We must strengthen our police in our neighborhoods. He will listen to our police officers and follow through with helping them solve these serious problems.
2. Sensible Solutions to Illegal Immigration – Support our Federal Government to secure our borders. Morales believes that all Americans must do their part to help our country solve this problem. He strongly supports ending the Sanctuary program which will give police the ability to question lawbreakers if they are US citizens. He is NOT FOR PROFILING of any ethnic or racial group. He will promote safe and secure programs for all our children to battle against street gangs like MS 13.
3. Improve Homeland Security and Emergency Services – Protect our families and businesses from growing terrorist groups. Morales will do everything in his power to protect the valuable Houston resources such as our port, oil and petroleum industries, medical center and NASA.
4. Eliminate Wasteful Spending and End Property Taxes – Ensure the City’s general budget does not grow more than inflation or population growth. Investigate new ideas to eliminate out of control property taxes. The data suggests that slight adjustments in sales tax of some goods could replace residential property taxes and give greater buying power to consumers.

CHRISTIAN AND FAMILY GROUPS WANT THEM OUT OF HERE!
If you haven’t heard by now the Porn Industry is having a big convention in Houston. It’s called the Lone Star Porno Copia. There are several adult film stars and actresses in town for the event. They’re signing autographs and taking pictures with their fans at the Ramada Plaza on Airport Road near Hobby Airport. I think the event is running through Saturday. So far some Houston christian and family groups have come out to tell the convention organizers to get out of town!
TIME TO ICE SKATE IN THE WOODLANDS!
Just had to grab this worthless shot of the Woodlands Ice Rink near the mall Thursday night. It’s a reminder of just how close we are to Christmas!
WHAT’S YOUR HIDDEN OR UNKNOWN TALENT?
In case you didn’t know KPRC TV 2 anchor Jerome Gray is more than just a television journalist. He’s also an accomplished artist who has had several art shows. Unfortunately, The Insite was under the weather when Gray held his latest art show at The New Gallery on Colquitt. The showing benefited the Aldine Y.O.U.T.H. program. Gray specializes in contemporary paintings. Way to go Jerome by giving back to the community. So that leads me to the question what is your hidden talent? Do you have a talent no one would ever expect? Believe it or not The Insite used to sing in operas during my middle, high school and a portion of my college years. So what are some of the operas I have been in? Carmen, Tosca, La Boheme, The Magic Flute, Aida – and then there was that Annie thing when I was in middle school. But don’t look to deep into that!
THESE ARE THE FEELINGS OF ONE OF THE INSITE’S READERS WHO APPARENTLY HAS HAD ENOUGH OF REACTIONARY AUDITS BY THE CITY CONTROLLERS OFFICE:
I have noticed over the last few years Houston’s City Controllers Office has been kind of reactionary whether than proactive like in the past. What do I mean by that? Well, this week the Controller’s Office announced they’re looking into the Taser issue that has plagued the city of Houston and HPD. This comes after public outcry over the use of tasers on African Americans by HPD officers. My question is why must there be public outcry before the office looks into the issue or realize there is a problem. Case study #2: After the City Hall Bonus-Gate scandal broke on the news only then did the Controllers office begin looking into incentive pay improprieties. The Houston Chronicle was able to dig up more than the Controller’s office with an open records request. Case study #3: It was after a local television station began looking into the activities of the president of the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau that the Controller’s office joined in and started their performance audit. Case Study #4: It took several television stations and the newspaper to point out the problems at Municipal Court before the Controllers office began probing the issue. I can remember several years back when Sylvia Garcia and Judy Gray Johnson uncovered several cases of corruption well before it made the news. Now the office only seems to react after the fact. But I’m just one person and I can be wrong. Maybe they’re uncovering their own corruption – but I haven’t heard about it!

BILL WHITE WANTS TO AMEND STATE LAW TO FILL THE AT LARGE POSITION!
Mayor Bill White says his motive is to save you millions of dollars. That’s why he’s going to the Texas legislature to get an amendment to a state law that requires Houston to hold a special election for the vacated seat once held by now Congresswoman Shelley Sekula Gibbs. Frank Michel, Houston’s communications director, says a special election to fill the last year of Gibbs unexpired term would cost between $3 and $4 million dollars. So the mayor’s director of Governmental Affairs Anne Travis will lobby state lawmakers to amend the law. The city would then allow the seat to remain vacant until the general election in November rather than a multi-million dollar special election in May. However, those against leaving the seat vacant say it could cause a major headache on city council. They say with one of the 15 seats vacant there could be lots of room for deadlocks on the council without the crucial 15th vote. In the meantime, Council member Anne Clutterbuck is asking the Mayor to appoint someone to the position until there is another election!
WALT DISNEY WOULD BE SHOCKED!
Remember the Disney Channel kid that appeared in nearly every tv show with fellow Mickey actress Raven Simone. His name is Orlando Brown and boy has he taken a different route or at least look. He was spotted in a local Houston nightclub last Sunday and you can see he doesn’t appear to be your typical Disney kid actor any longer. Just one of those “a picture is worth a thousand words” type post.

HOW MANY HATS CAN ONE MAN WEAR?
You can add one more hat to the several Houston City Council member Michael Berry wears. He’s now officially a blogger. He tells The Insite his blog can be found at the KPRC Radio website. He launched the new medium on Monday. The blog is now one of his many duties including holding down his council position, running a real estate company, a law degree and anchoring a talk show!
THE FLU STOPPED THIS INTERVIEW!
I received a call Sunday afternoon as I was driving back into Houston from Louisiana where I spent Thanksgiving. The call was from a local rap manager who asked me if I could come out and interview Flava Flav who is in town to support Houston Rapper Mike Jones. As some of you may know Jones has a club on Sunday nights he calls Ice Age and he brings in all of his celebrity friends. This Sunday it is no other than Mr. Flava of Love himself. He’s also bringing Delicious – Flav’s pick of season 2 from his VH1 reality show. But unfortunately, The Insite had to decline the interview because I think I’m coming down with the flu. Soreness, coughing, sneezing and all the other pains associated with the bad bug. So now I’m at home relaxing hoping to get it in gear for work Monday! Wish me well and sorry I missed out on bringing picks of Flav to the Insite. Watch FOX 26 news at 9pm Sunday. Another staffer from the station may go out and get the scoop!
SOUTHERN AND GRAMBLING WERE BACK IN THE DOME!
After a 1 year absence because of hurricane Katrina – the 33rd annual Bayou Classic returned to the Crescent city. The Insite was there as thousands of fans attended the annual game between Southern University and Grambling State University. The Superdome isn’t quite 100% just yet but they’re slowly getting there. It’s hard to imagine the facility was home to so much destruction, chaos and death less than a year ago. One of the attendants in the suites said the place should still be leveled and made into some type of Katrina Memorial – then he slipped a glass of the Crown Royal he should’ve been serving to the guests. Several familiar faces to the Insite attended the event including old college mates and friends: Dawn Collins, Michael Adams, Lori Folse, Don Clayton, The Dukes Family, Tony Clayton, Cedric Upshaw, Millete Scott, Glynn Scott, Chopper aka Young City (MTV Making The Band), Coach Roger Cador, Mayor Ray Nagin, Paula Clayton, Gov. Kathleen Blanco and a long list of others!
