CITY WORKERS: THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S OFFICE IS NOW ON A WITCH HUNT!

INVESTIGATORS ARE EVEN TRYING TO COZY UP TO US ON SMOKE BREAKS!

‘Some’ Houston city hall employees say it has become nerve racking on their jobs as investigators from The Harris County District Attorney’s office continue to just hover around their offices. This comes weeks after the indictment of several city workers in the bonus-gate scandal. Employees tell the Insite it has put everyone on edge and it makes it almost impossible to conduct daily business without looking over their shoulders. They say investigators seem to be on a fishing expedition rather than a well organized investigation at this point. Those workers from the D-A’s office according to sources are requesting a long list of random documents on any and all council offices from campaign finance reports to travel documentation. It’s the workers perception that the district attorney is trying to turn simple mistakes or lost paper work into criminal activity. I’m told it’s those same d-a investigators who have been spotted everywhere from the city secretary’s office to human resources going over applications and council manuals. Just what are they looking for now? Workers say it appears they have no clear purpose except to conduct a witch hunt. Some of the d-a’s workers have even been seen attempting to casually interject themselves into city employees’ conversations during their smoke breaks outside of the annex building. Unidentified workers also say smoking appears to be their tactic to try and relax employees in order to get information out of them. I’m told workers are so nervous it takes an exaggerated amount of time to fill out simple expense reports and even take time off. Those workers want to make sure every ‘t’ is crossed and every ‘i’ is dotted. The Insite recently spoke with lead attorney Don Smyth with the district attorney’s office who was very tight lipped about his investigation. He seems only willing to talk about my coverage of Enron at the federal building. But when it comes to city hall – all he will say is that their investigation is continuing and they want to know if the bonuses throughout city government are being handled according to state law and city policy. As far as who he’s investigating and what his team of probers are looking for remain a closely guarded secret. That’s if they truly have a clear target in mind besides bonuses. Just the Insite sharing some Insite!
