WILSON HEADLINING THE INAUGURAL GALA!
The Insite hears former Supreme Mary Wilson will be performing for Governor Rick Perry at his inauguration in Austin. Sources tell the Insite Wilson’s folk were approached by the Governor’s office for the command performance. Many were taken aback by this because they thought Perry would likely go for a country/western performer. But The Insite hears Wilson has accepted the invitation and will soon be on her way to perform at the Inaugural Gala!

$51.00 – WERE THEY DRINKING PLATINUM JUICE!
I was with some friends at the Houston Rockets game New Years Eve when they went to order drinks. The attendant at the Jack Daniels bar brought them three drinks back and when she gave the total I was shocked. $51.00…for three drinks. It left me bothered so I had to do some investigating to see if they were drinking platinum juice. I was told it was two vodkas and one whiskey. After further investigation I discovered they received what the attendant called large drinks. But that would still make the cost $17 each. I thought it was outrageous – what about you – do you think that’s a bit high?

BLACK EYED PEA JAMBALAYA!
This a recipe I got about 13 years ago from an old friend in Louisiana who is no longer with us. Vernon Roger (Ro-shay) was a premiere cajun cook in Baton Rouge (no offense Tracy White) during the 80’s and 90’s. He was also an anchorman at WAFB TV. But this recipe is a different twist for your New Years Day menu. Try it – and you will love.

TONI RICHARD STEPPED OUT ON FAITH!
Say hello to Toni Richard. She is the publisher and owner of The Tomball-SpringTimes. She launched her newspaper in May of 2006. The Times services the North Houston area. Richard, an accountant by trade, tells The Insite she stepped out on faith and began her very own newspaper. So far she says things are going extremely well with the publication. I had a chance to view it and the hard work she put into the paper clearly shows. Make sure you stop by The Times and take a look at Richard’s hard work and dedication to journalism. And thanks for dropping by The Insite Toni!
BACK IN THE LIMELIGHT AND PUBLIC LIFE AS THE NEW PRESIDENT OF THE HOUSTON NAACP!
Congratulations to Carol Mims Galloway. The former public official has been elected the new President of the Houston branch of the NAACP. That pushes her back into the limelight and public life. Galloway tells the Insite “I’m very excited. I’ve been working with the group for 25 years and this is quite an honor.” She became a major player in the organization when she was tapped by the national office back in 1979 to merge 4 Houston branches into one. The former district B council member and school board member says she’s been active and involved in the organization ever since. She’s replacing Fran Gentry as head of the Houston civil rights group. If you’re interested Galloway’s installation ceremony will take place January 7, 2007 at Good Hope Baptist Church. It’s located at 3015 N. MacGregor Way and it will be held at 4 p.m. Congratulations Mrs. Galloway on your election and appointment!
HE SAW THE WRITING ON THE WALL!
Jordy Tollett said Friday he is stepping down from his position as CEO of the Greater Houston Convention and Visitors Bureau. Tollett has decided to pursure other interests. He came under fire after being caught allegedly drinking in a bar during his work hours. The expose was done by a local television station. Meanwhile, Mayor Bill White made it clear he didn’t have much confidence in Tollett’s abilities in the office so the former CEO saw the writing on the wall. With this move Tollett walks away from a $200,000 a year job. However, he is expected to stay on as a consultant to the Greater Houston Cenvention and Visitors Bureau.
