AM I IMAGINING ALL OF THIS – BECAUSE THE INSITE READERS HAVE A WAY OF TALKING ME DOWN!
Do you remember the book ‘Invisible Man’ by Ralph Ellison. It talked about how African Americans were invisible to whites in this country way back. I only bring up this issue because I heard an interesting comment while I was in the lobby of City Hall. I was actually waiting for the elevator to arrive so I could go to the second floor where the council was meeting. Well, as I got into the elevator a white female was standing just outside of the door and she seemed to be lost. So as the door started to close she ran for the elevator and jumped in. And then she turned around and looked at me and my photographer and said she felt like “a black person” – like she was invisible. At first I didn’t know what to say or think because it caught me off guard. Then after a second I just laughed and so did the photographer because somehow it struck a chord with us. She went on to explain that she needed help and directions in the lobby and everyone seemed to ignore her and she felt like she was invisible. I could not chew her out for her comment because it rang so true. And I only thought about it again after attending an event that same evening. I was standing at the “refreshments” bar when the attendant was bending over – arranging some bottles. Meanwhile, standing just behind me with a slight angle to my right shoulder was a white male. When the bar attendant, who happens to be white, stood up – he looked right pass me and asked the white male “can I help you sir?” And with that I immediately thought this must be one of those ‘invisible moments’ the white female told me about in the elevator at City Hall. So I’m asking you all what was my bar situation all about? I know the Insite readers have a way of talking me out of my claims of racism, favoritism, sexcism or classism….Tell me what happened here. Am I shorter than I imagine and did the bar attendant not see me? The Insite wants to hear your opinion about invisibility!
WHY CAN’T I GET IN – THEY INVITED ME?
The Insite made a quick stop by the press announcement that the Houston Comets had been purchased by Furniture Guy Hilton Koch. The price I hear is somewhere around $10 million dollars. But what I noticed as I walked in the Toyota Center – there was a room full of people who had to watch the announcement from a tv screen in the lobby and they were p—– off. I talked to one person who said she was invited by the Comets and was told to bring other local dignataries. Despite that – the group was stopped at the door by the attendants. They were told it was standing room only in the press room. I also saw one major mover and shaker in Houston leaving after this person was turned away at the door. I hear a lot of people are pretty upset with the Comets and Rockets for this turn away. One person said “why would they invite me and tell me to invite others if they’re going to treat us this way.” Who knows – what’s your opinion on this situation?
I’LL BUY CANDLES @ IKEA FIRST!
Former KRBE radio guy and now ROCK 103.7 personality Johnny Bravo says he will not pay his electric bill. This comes after the radio guy received a major increase in his electric bill from Reliant from $100 to over $400 in one month. Bravo says he has the money but it’s the principal of the matter. He has learned CenterPoint – the meter reading company for Reliant – estimated his bill for the last couple of months. And as a result the power company under estimated the actual usage so now they’re catching up at the expense of Bravo. He says he will sit in the dark rather than pay the outrageous bill. Johnny even says he has candles lined up at IKEA that he will buy to keep his apartment lit!

I WONDER WHAT THEY HAVE ON THEIR COMPUTERS!
The Insite learns some industrious reporter has filed an open records request to see the internal contents of all Houston city council members laptops. You can tell it’s sweeps time from that request. I hear at least three council members have lap tops but the unidentified reporter is really focused on just one but put in a blanket open records request. I have no idea what the reporter is looking for but my mind can come up with all kinds of stuff…Do you know more and what the reporter is looking for and who the reporter is? Let the Insite now the details!

NEW SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM AND OFFICER GERALDINE CELESTINE HAS HER EYE ON YOU!
The Insite noticed a hi-tech panel in the lobby of city hall. It had multiple display screens monitoring hall ways and rooms of the government building. It’s the city’s new surveillance system that will keep an eye on you when you’re at city hall. So don’t go there and put anything in your pockets or try to throw an egg at a city leader because big brother is watching in city hall!

HE’S THANKING ALL WHO PRAYED FOR HIS RECOVERY!
The Insite received this press release from a local representative of the Nation of Islam:
On the morning of Sunday, January 28, 2007, the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan was released from a five-week hospital stay following a major surgical procedure. As this great news was delivered via a national webcast from Nation of Islam Headquarters in Chicago, Ill., Nation of Islam Believers and well-wishers for Min. Farrakhan’s speedy recovery responded with shouts of “Allahu Akbar” (God is the Greatest) and numerous other expressions of joy.
“He was in the hospital for five weeks,” explained Min. Ishmael, national assistant to Min. Farrakhan, who moderated the webcast. “I’m happy to announce to the Nation of the Islam and all of the wonderful people who prayed for him that he was released and is out of the hospital, and at home,” he shared.
In addition to the care from his doctors, Min. Farrakhan was under the constant and continued care from his daughter and nurse, Fatima Farrakhan Muhammad, who had been by her father’s side the entire time.
“The Minister wants to thank all those who prayed for his recovery and healing. Let us continue to keep the Minister in our prayers for his complete recovery,” Sis. Fatima told The Final Call.
