One of the most popular DJ's in Houston over the last 15 years (and he's not even 38 yet) has decided to hang up the microphone at 104 KRBE where he spent his entire career. I am speaking of my friend "YO-J" (real name Jerome Ronquillo) who will be moving on to a lucrative medical sales role here shortly, after making 104 one of the most listen to radio stations in the 4th largest city of the country.
YO-J is a graduate of the Univerisity of Houston, and he cut his teeth in the UH campus stand-up comedy scene; opening up for acts such as David Spade, and Red Johnny & The Round Guy, back in the early and mid 90's. While still at UH he signed on with KRBE and he's been there ever since.
So in honor of all the people he made smile, laugh, or turned on to new music over the years; I would like the INSIGHT readers to say a word of thanks. Feel free to mention your Sunday nights at the Roxy (like when Prince arrived after a show and performed unaccompanied), or the day when he spun a tune you requested at your favorite club.
Thanks YO-J, you will be missed by the radio listening/club going community of this town for a long time!
