The Insite received this press release from Prairie View A&M acknowledging a major accomplishment by one of their faculty members who may be familiar to the Insite readers:
The USA Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association recently presented a Distinguished Service Award to Prairie View A&M University professor and former Olympic women’s track coach Barbara Jacket. She was awarded the prestigious honor during the 2006 USTCA convention in Florida. Bestowed upon an exclusive few, the USTCA Distinguished Service Award is determined by a tally of votes by its members. Jacket, known throughout the world for her coaching accomplishments, received the largest amount of online votes, which caused her to receive the award. “It’s really great to be honored by your peers. I did not know about the voting for the award, until a former athlete of mine told me that she made sure she voted for me,” Jacket said. Jacket has worked at Prairie View A&M University for more than 30 years, including 25 years as head women’s track and field and cross country coach and five years as the university’s athletics director.
Congratulations to Professor Jacket for her hard work and dedication in the fields of education and athletics!
