Every year The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, presents an exhibition series known as Movies Houstonians Love recognizing notable Houstonians for their contributions to the art community and the city of Houston. This year, one of the music industries prominent Hip Hop artists’, Houston’s own, BUN B of the group UGK was selected to participate in the series. On February 13, 2007 in The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston , TX , BUN B will be turning the Brown Auditorium into his living room, where he will share a favorite film, Style Wars, with a group of 300 plus art lovers, musicians, friends and fellow Houstonians. After the film, BUN B will speak about how the film affected his life and take questions from guests. It is sure to be a historic event for BUN B, the art industry, the entertainment industry, and all those present. When asked to select a film that was influential in his life and career as an artist BUN B selected Tony Silver and Henry Chalfants’ film, Style Wars. Style Wars is the legendary hip hop documentary and timeless film classic depicting the immersion of the phenomenon that took over New York’s streets and subways in 1982. It is the story of the graffiti writers’ canvas, the DJ’s playground and the hip hop lover’s roots. Style Wars was chosen by BUN B for its influence on his joining and participation in one of the greatest movements of all time: the hip hop movement. Its depiction of the original spirit, youthful creativity, origination and struggles of the hip hop subculture is accurate and useful to all those interested in knowing what hip hop is truly about.
Other notable Houstonians honored this year are Larry Dierker, former pitcher for the Houston Astros , Barbara Bush, Former First Lady, and filmmaker Richard Linklater.
