THE HARRIS COUNTY SHERIFF ON THE HIJI HARRISON MISTRIAL!

THE SHERIFF GIVES HIS REACTION TO THE CONTROVERSIAL CASE!

After a federal judge declared a mistrial in the wrongful shooting death of Hiji Harrison by Harris County deputy Williams Wilkinson – Sheriff Tommy Thomas released a statement. If you’ll remember the federal lawsuit accused the county of violating the civil rights of Harrison, who was killed back in 2004 during a traffic stop. Here’s the statement:

“It’s clear that there were members of the jury who strongly believe, as we continue to believe, that the shooting was justified and that there were no civil rights violations. We are convinced that the matter should never have been brought to trial in the first place, and that there is no way to justify the expense to the tax payers of a subsequent new trial. Sadly, a trial of this nature, based as it was on spurious claims and given the attempts of some to try this case in the media, serves only to undermine the public’s trust in the law enforcement agencies who strive to safeguard that public.”
