Harris County Judge Robert Eckels told a sold out crowd at the Greater Houston Partnership and League of Women Voters annual State of the County luncheon that the time is right for him to leave county government. “The county is strong and the culture of leadership is evident in every county department”, said Judge Eckels. Eckels stated that he was definitely staying through the county budget process and would not officially leave until he met with all the county commissioners to appoint an appropriate replacement. He mentioned several potential candidates and was hopeful all the court members could agree on the replacement. Eckels mentioned that he has received several offers in the private sector and did not indicate which one he would accept. He did not rule out running for political office in 2008 or 2010.
