LET’S TAKE IT TO THE STREETS!
At 10 a.m. TODAY (Wednesday, February 28) Houston Police Chief Harold
Hurtt will officially kick-off “March On Crime/ Lucha Contra El
Crimen 2007″ at the HPD Headquarters at 1200 Travis on the 1st Floor, Media Briefing Room. A city proclamation will be presented declaring March 2007 “March On Crime/Lucha Contra El Crimen” month.
This marks the 23rd year the Houston Police Department has observed this event that is designed to heighten awareness of crime in Houston area communities and encourage citizens to join the department in reducing crime.
The “March On Crime” campaign was created in March of 1985 out of the growing concern over violent crimes being committed in the African American community. The program was such a success in its first year that the Hispanic community adopted the concept. The goal of “March On Crime/Lucha Contra El Crimen” grew over the years to include all neighborhoods to disseminate crime prevention information to the general public.
