INSITE HEADQUARTERS TURNS INTO CAJUN CENTRAL!

COOKING UNDER A STORM FRIDAY NIGHT!

Despite the heavy storms that rolled in Friday night The Insite pulled out his heavy duty boiler and cooked up 30 pounds of crawfish at Insite headquarters. It took me about 4 hours to get everything just right including boiled potatoes, corn, sausages, mushrooms and of course – the crawfish. I have to pat myself on the back because everything came out wonderful. Everyone from neighbors to family enjoyed this cajun feast just after midnight even when the rain moved in. I’ll have to pass you guys the secret recipe one of these days – a hint add oranges to your boiling technique!

THE HOUSTON POLICE DEPARTMENT’S RECRUITMENT EFFORT IN FULL SWING!

UNCLE HURTT WANTS YOU!

As many of you know there is a shortage of police officers in Houston and so the department is making it known Uncle Hurtt Wants You! I have noticed banners in local online magazines that link readers back to the Houston Police Department’s website. The department recently asked for an additional $300,000 to advertise the vacancies around the country but the measure was put on hold by Houston’s city council. So don’t be surprised if you see the recruitment banners around seeking hired guns for the department!

HOUSTON RADIO PERSONALITY GETS THE COVER!

BRAVO ON HEALTH AND FITNESS SPORTS MAGAZINE!

Houston radio personality Johnny Bravo (Radio One) is sharing with The Insite readers his latest big news – He’s the cover model for the April edition of Health and Fitness Sports magazine. Now things like this never happened to most of us but Bravo says he was riding a bike when a photographer snapped his picture. And from there the rest is magazine cover history. He did include a picture that I could not download for some reason. However, if you’re interested in seeing the funny guy make sure you hit the local Houston news stands (Randalls, Kroger, Rice Epicurean, Gerland’s and others) to get your issue of Health and Fitness Sports magazine. Way to go Bravo!

WHAT DO HOUSTON FIREFIGHTERS DRINK WHILE SAVING LIVES!

MONSTER WAS WRITTEN ALL OVER THE SCENE!

I was out on the North Loop in Houston Thursday at the devestating fire scene when photographer Torrey ‘T-Dub’ Walker noticed something. It was a trail of empty cans of the energy drink ‘Monster’ all over ground where 5 people were rescued just a day earlier. From there we both realized – with so many fresh cans in one area that could mean only one thing: They were the choice drink of Houston firefighters while battling the four alarm fire that claimed 3 lives. The Houston firefighters probably used the drinks to energize and hype themselves up while enduring a massive fire. We found several cans scattered around the area. I can see this as a commercial in the works, that’s if the right people read the Insite and email it to the manufacturer of ‘Monster’. Of course, I want my cut for the original commercial idea. What do Houston firefighters rely on when they’re saving lives – No not Gatorade, but The Monster!
Note: Hats off to the brave men and women of the Houston Fire Department and condolences to the families of the victims!

SUE LOVELL GOING AFTER CONCRETE CRUSHING PLANTS!

SHE’S GOING TO GET TOUGH ON THEM SO YOU CAN BREATH BETTER!

Houston city council member has more than just graffiti on her mind. Sue Lovell is now focusing on those pesky concrete crushing plants that fill the air with that dust. The city’s Environment Committee will tackle the issue in weeks to come with an ordinance. Here’s the details from Lovell:

This committee has been looking into issues surrounding concrete crushing facilities. The problem is the dust created which causes air quality problems for residents in the area. This committee received a promise from the Mayor’s office to bring forward an ordinance to deal with this problem. They are currently looking at what action can be taken to improve the air quality and pollution issues in Houston. An outline of the draft ordinance on this issue went before the committee on March 22, 2007.
