CONGRATULATIONS AND A WEDDING GIFT TO REMEMBER!

TAKING US BACK TO OUR ROOTS!

The Insite attended good friend James Verrett’s wedding in Lafayette, Louisiana over the weekend. He married Atlanta, Ga resident/Louisiana native Katreshia Louis. The Insite had the pleasure of taking part in the wedding and serving as emcee of the reception at Lafayette’s City Club. The couple first met back in New Orleans. Verrett was covering a sporting event for the CBS affiliate in Baton Rouge while Katreshia was there from Georgia Tech and the rest is history. Well anyway, Friday night James presented all of his friends with a groomsmen gift at the rehearsal dinner. When I received it – we all acknowledged it was the strangest and scariest present we’ve all received. Verrett said he wanted to go back to our roots with his gift. Those roots included Louisiana and I guess cane fields. As many of you know African Americans in Louisiana not only picked cotton but they harvested the sugar cane fields. And I guess going back to the roots is what he was trying to imply with the cane knives we were all given with the inscription “A Cut Above The Rest” and “Bound By The Boot” – it was the strangest wedding gift I’ve seen but it is truly appreciated. Now, I have to get it from Louisiana because that’s where I mistakenly left it Monday morning!
