US Attorney General Alberto Gonzales found himself grilled in Washington D.C. this week. He went before a senate committee to address allegations he lied about his involvement in last year’s firings of several Assistant US Attorneys around the country. Political opponents claim Gonzales, a Houston product, fired several prosecutors because of political pressure. Washington insiders say the firings came after President Bush’s right hand man Carl Rove got involved. The allegations are the attorneys weren’t moving fast or weren’t aggressive enough in prosecuting political enemies of the GOP. However, Gonzales under intense pressure deny that. He says US attorneys work at the leisure of the President and can’t be fired. Initially, Gonzales said he was not privy to details of the terminations but backtracked on his earlier statement. He said he was involved but not intimately. Republican and Democrat Senators have asked for Gonzales resignation. The question the Insite has is it time for him to come back home to Houston and give up the position. Leave your comments below!
