City officials were surprised only a small number of people turned out for the annual Beach Party Weekend in Galveston. It was the lowest turnout in the history of the annual black college event according to officials and business owners. Typically – thousands crowd onto the island for the weekend party but apparently the African American college students are now getting the point. In Galveston, the red carpet won’t be rolled out for them. As typical during the event – several stores remained closed during the weekend claiming those who attend the event are far too rowdy and don’t spend any money. But 21 year old Kelsey Jones of Monroe, La. begs to differ. She says she bought a bikini on the island and her group was renting rooms. No official word yet why fewer people turned out for the event. Or maybe they read the previous post here on the Insite and realized what they were in for if they decided to take the trip to Galveston.
Note: I received dozens of hits from people all around the country who read the previous post written here about the treatment African Americans received at the Galveston Beach Party!
