THEY’RE ALL BLACK AND WEARING RED SO THEY MUST BE GANG MEMBERS!
As many of you know I have been posting on the Galveston Beach Week held last weekend for several weeks. During all my posts I’ve consistently used the same photos. A group of African American youth on the beach in Galveston. One shows a group of guys dressed in red with all of them showing hand symbols. As a result of that picture here’s what some person wrote in the comment section:
Like the picture of those fine “college students” by the grill. Happen to notice those interesting hand signs they’re making? How about the fact that they’re all wearing red? You figure out yet genius? They’re Blood’s! That’s right, GANG MEMBERS you friggin idiot! What a dumbass! Way to go there Carey, you’re a typical reporter, full o crap. posted by : 7:09 PM
Now, is that judging a book’s cover wthout even skimming the pages. This person automatcally assumed a group of blacks wearing red were gang members. It shows this person hasn’t had much exposure to African American college students. Otherwise, he would’ve known the group is wearing red because they represent the ‘college’ fraternity Kappa Alpha Psi. Just look at the organizatons letters on the red trimmed hat. As for the gang signs they’re throwing – how about the official hand symbol of Kappa Alpha Psi. I can’t believe the nerve of the reader who is apparently trying to make a weak case for Galveston businesses who didn’t want the African American youth in their community. Is it racism or stupidity that would lead someone to assume any young black person dressed in red is a member of the Bloods gang? I want to hear your opinion on this. By the way, I hope the comment was a joke because no one could be that —-. I usually don’t respond like this to comments but this had to be addressed!
