HOUSTON’S PAY OR PLAY POLICY!

HEALTH INSURANCE FOR SOME HOUSTONIANS!

The Mayor of Houston introduced a new plan that will leave some local workers with insurance. The program called ‘Pay or Play’ would required companies that get contracts with the city of $100,000 or more to insure their employees. The companies, if they want to continue to do business with the city, will have to pay $150 a month per employee. It would go into a health insurance pool for city contract workers. Mayor Bill White says it’s a plan that will help hundreds of uninsured workers here in Houston. Council Member Carol Alvarado was on hand to also show her support for the proposed policy. The Houston city council will vote on the issue Wednesday.
