Council member Addie Wiseman took issue with a memo sent out by an executive assistant chief at the Houston police department. In the letter sent to Mayor Bill White and other council members M. W. Thaler used Laura Smithers as an example of why there should be a curfew in the city of Houston. Thaler says because the home school student was out alone jogging and not with an adult or in traditional school, as the curfew ordinance requires, she was abducted and killed by a predator. Wiseman felt the example to get support and passage of the ordinance was inappropriate. The council member went on to say the assistant chief was insensitive to use the girls death as a tool to get the ordinance passed. Wiseman is against the ordinance that passed Wednesday in city council. Was the memo insensitive? Take a read and come back and leave your opinion on The Insite!
