I was searching the internet for a picture of former HPD officer Tom Nixon for a report I was preparing when I found his campaign website. On it he has a picture of himself in the Houston Police Department uniform. That immediately sent up a red flag. It was public knowledge that Tom Nixon was fired from HPD during the chase policy days. So I wondered why he had on the HPD uniform on his political site despite not working for the department any more. I decided to place a call to HPD and I’m told by media relations rep Johanna Abad that she will look into it. I will keep you updated on this. I also remember a report I did where officers could not appear on non-department websites in their uniform. I will let you know what the department has to say about this. By the way, Tom is running for Shelley Sekula Gibbs old council seat!
Note: If you save the image it clearly states Tom Nixon former HPD officer. Could that be his way of legally getting around the use of the photo?
