This is probably the dumb comment of the week. The Insite was covering the substation fire-explosion in southwest Houston Thursday afternoon. I was assigned to find employees who were evacuated out of their offices. Several buildings in the area lost power because of the fire. My photographer and I arrived at Greenway Plaza to talk to some of the workers just after 1pm…As we scouted out people to interview we were approached by a security guy who told us not to block any traffic. Understandable. But minutes later a second security guy arrives and asks “do you have an appointment to be on the property?” I just had to look at the guy for a second. There is a huge fire blazing and people being evacuated and he wants to know if we have an appointment to be on the property to cover the breaking news. Sure, I made the appointment last week to cover the unexpected fire this week…This is the kind of person you just walk away from. How do you answer “do you have an appointment” to cover breaking news!
