A VERY SAD AND EYE OPENING REMINDER OF TIMES LONG GONE!

MISSISSIPPI-HARRIS COUNTY HISTORY!

I was researching a story at the Harris County Courthouse on Friday when I ran across a very interesting and sad document from 1839. It was a bill of sale for a 13 year old girl by the name of Sulky. The African decedent was sold from one owner based in Natchez, Mississippi to another person here in Harris County. The price tag was $1,000 for Sulky. Reading the document has caused the issue to linger in my mind all weekend. I decided to share it with you guys. I wondered whatever became of Sulky and if she still has family members in the Houston area. It left so many unanswered questions in my mind. But I had to realize it’s a part of history. Take a read of the copy of the authentic document and leave your comments here on The Insite. It’s eye opening!
