INVESTIGATORS SAY THEY WERE TRYING TO ROB PEOPLE!
Houston Police say an off-duty officer in northeast Houston opened fire on several robbery suspects overnight. Police say one of the men was waving a toy gun.
It happened just after 1:30 a.m. on Monday morning at the Invasor Night Club.
Police say two or three men were trying to rob people in the parking lot.
One of two off-duty HPD officers in the club came outside and confronted the men when one of them pulled out what appeared to be a gun.
The officer opened fire, but police do not know if any of the suspects were shot.
“The officer did what he needed to do to protect himself and the citizens,” said HPD Sgt. Ken Rivera. “You can’t identify a gun from a distance — whether it’s a toy or not.”
As the suspects were leaving they dropped the toy gun. Witnesses say the suspects drove away in an unknown vehicle.
Police say an investigation is on-going, and they may be able to pull fingerprints off the toy gun.
