UPDATED: A federal jury has sided with Maria Carmona and 97.9 The Boxx in this case. The panel said Maria Carmona is the rightful owner of the Los Magnificos logo. The jury returned the verdict just before 4pm Friday in federal Judge David Hittner’s court!
It was a family affair at the Federal Courthouse in Houston this morning. But the Carmona family is embroiled in a bitter legal dispute. Richard Carmona has filed a lawsuit against his sister in law Maria Carmona and local hip hop radio station KBXX 97.9 The Boxx. Richard Carmona claims in the federal complaint the logo for the Los Magnificos Car Show is rightfully his property and that of his deceased brother Joel. Richard also alleges he’s lost more than a million dollars in income because Maria and The Boxx have continued to use the Los Magnificos logo, put on the car show and entered into agreements despite being told not to repeatedly. The suit also reads – Mrs. Carmona and KBXX have interered with prospective contracts of Plantiff (Richard). Richard also says Mrs. Carmona has interfered wit Plantiff’s prospective business relationship with KBXX.
If you don’t know – Los Magnificos Car Show is one of the biggest events for automobile display in Houston. It’s held annually at the Reliant Arena and draws thousands of people and employs dozens. You may want to keep your eye on the case because it could have a major impact on the car show circuit in Houston. A federal jury in Judge David Hittner’s court now has the case.
