MIKE STRETCH SAYS HE WENT TOO FAR!

APPARENTLY, THE $60,000 PARTY WASN’T WORTH IT!

The Harris County’s former toll road czar says he “overstepped” his authority when he sought nearly 60-thousand dollars from county contractors for an employee party.
Mike Strech resigned as director of the Harris County Toll Road Authority last week after an investigation revealed the solicitations. The former 153-thousand-dollar-a-year official tells
the Houston Chronicle he saw nothing wrong with the arrangement — but he says he erred by disobeying orders from his boss not to proceed with it.
Investigations revealed a pattern dating at least to the summer of 2006. It showed Strech asked companies winning contracts with the authority to donate to accounts he used to pay for employee
events. Those included picnics at a local water park, a February golf tournament and a Christmas party.
