SHOCKED BY THE REASON FOR THE STANDOFF!

TWO POSTS IN ONE: THE BIG HEAD AND THE SWAT SCENE!

I was sitting in the newsroom Thursday with quite the big head. It was because an article about me came out in the Houston Chronicle. For some strange reason I thought I would get a pass on going out to work from my managers because I was in the newspaper. One co-worker asked me why a person who is on tv every day was so excited to be in the newspaper for one day. I had no answer. But I told him he needed to make an appointment to speak to me in the future. But back to my assumed day off. Just as I was about to kick my legs up on my desk top and chill – my managing editor Carolyn Mungo tells me I’m going out to a SWAT stand off. I said to myself “I didn’t come here to work today.” Twenty minutes later I was in southeast Houston- in the heat – at a hostage scene. Jose Estrada (yellow shirt) decided to take his common law wife hostage. There were dozens of cops and deputies on the scene. After a three hour stand off – the suspect gave in and set his wife – Ruth German (red shirt) free. I had a chance to interview Ruth and ask her why. She said he took her hostage because she was starting a job on Friday. I thought I missed part of her answer but she said her husband of five years held her hostage at knife point because he didn’t want her to work. I was confused at best. But German said it was as simple as that – Jose wanted her to stay home with their 1 year old. When she made it clear she wouldn’t – he took her hostage. Any thoughts on this?
