There has seen a lot of international interest in tonight’s scheduled execution of Texas death row inmate Patrick Knight. He’s the man who wants to tell a joke before he’s executed. Well, a newspaper based in the United Kingdom appartently picked up on the post about Knight here on The Insite. As a result they credit me for some quotes in their international publication. How cool is that? Here is a portion of the article from the Guardian Unlimited:
Murderer to dish up gallows humour before execution
Tuesday June 26, 2007
A man sentenced to be executed tonight in Texas is determined to have the last laugh, whatever the local sheriff who caught him and relatives of his victims may think.
Patrick Knight is due to die by lethal injection for the 1991 murder of two neighbours, Walter and Mary Werner. But rather than appealing for forgiveness or mercy in his final hours, Knight says he is appealing for jokes.
So far Knight says he has received about 250 wisecracks via a website set up by a friend, entitled Dead Man Laughing, and in letters sent to the jail in Livingston, Texas.
He intends to read out the best joke in his final statement before his execution.
“I’m not trying to disrespect the Werners or anything like that,” Knight was quoted as saying by Houston reporter, Isiah Carey. “I’m not trying to say I don’t care what’s going on. I’m about to die.
