A mistrial has been declared in the trial of teen accused in a fatal stabbing during a gang fight more than a year ago, FOX 26 News reported Friday.
Harris County 177th District Court Judge Devon Anderson announced there was a hung jury in the murder case of Ashley Benton shortly before 3:45 p.m.
The mistrial announcement came after the jury sent a note to the judge at about 3 p.m. saying they were not able to agree on a verdict.
Anderson then sent a note back to the jury/ The message contained in that note was not released.
A retrial has been scheduled to begin July 13.
Jurors continued deliberating the case Friday at 8:30 a.m. after spending more than 10 hours at it on Thursday. They were sequestered overnight.
