THE OLDEST AFRICAN AMERICAN PUBLIC SPACE!
Dozens of people turned out in the 90 degree temperatures for a major celebration. It was the birthday of Emancipation Park here in Houston. The park was purchased and established by former slaves back in 1872. The Dowling street facility is the oldest African American public space. Several dignitaries attended the event including Ada Edwards, Peter Brown, Rev. Bill Lawson, Horace Chaney, Kathryn Griffin Townsend and the list goes on. Happy Birthday Emancipation Park!
