EXCHANGE OF THE WEEK BETWEEN BURNEY AND GOODE: THE SLADE TRIAL!

THE JUDGE VERSUS THE PROSECUTOR IN HARRIS COUNTY COURT!

Harris County Justice of the Peace Zinetta Burney was called as a witness for Dr. Priscilla Slade in her ongoing criminal trial. Burney found herself going head to head with assistant district attorney Donna Goode. Goode was questioning Burney about the accountability for university officials. The prosecutor wanted to know if Burney was concerned about how TSU money was ‘allegedly’ spent by former TSU president Dr. Priscilla Slade. The exchange went like this in classic Burney and Goode style:

GOODE: “WOULD YOU WANT TO KNOW IF THE PRESIDENT SPENT A HALF MILLION DOLLARS WITHOUT YOUR KNOWLEDGE?”

BURNEY: “THAT’S PEANUTS COMPARED TO WHAT UNIVERSITIES SPEND…”

GOODE: “SO YOU’RE CALLING THE MISAPPLICATION OF $500,000 PEANUTS?”

BURNEY: “I’M TELLING YOU A MISAPPLICATION IS NOT A MISAPPLICATION JUST BECAUSE YOU CALL IT THAT.”
