Sheriff Thomas Announces HCSO Recruiting Initiative

Sheriff Tommy Thomas announced today that the Harris County Sheriff’s Office is launching a new recruiting initiative designed to attract greater numbers of qualified applicants. The centerpiece of this new initiative is a recruiting video that was produced in recent months by a local production company. The action-packed video, which was recorded and produced in movie-quality high definition, includes an introduction by Sheriff Thomas and features current Sheriff’s Office employees describing why they’re proud to be part of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. Employees featured in the video are currently assigned to such functions as Patrol, Detentions, the Emergency Response Team, Homicide, and Covert Operations, to name only a few. The video may be viewed in its entirety by going to, or by clicking the link from the Sheriff’s Office website at The video is also being recorded onto DVD for distribution to prospective applicants at job fairs and other recruiting opportunities.

In addition to open Deputy positions, the Sheriff’s Office also has openings for a variety of positions throughout the Sheriff’s Office, to include Detention Officers, Communications Officers, Nurses, and Clerical positions. The Sheriff’s Office is also accepting applications from certified Peace Officers wishing to laterally transfer into positions within the Field Operations Command, e.g., Patrol and Patrol Support Services.
