Wednesday was a groundbreaking day in the criminal trial of Dr. Priscilla Slade. The big deal? She spoke for the first time on the record in her ongoing trial. Slade was asked if she would be willing to waive her attorney/client privilege. Privilege between her and her former attorney Vidal Martinez. He negotiated her contract with the TSU board of regents. Her defense team, prosecutors, and Judge Brock Thomas had to get Slade’s permission to allow her attorney, who’s now a witness in the case, to talk about privileged information. When called to the bench by the judge Dr. Slade said to her attorney Mike DeGeurin, “I trust your judgment and whatever recommendation is at this time I will do.” This is the first time we’ve heard from Slade on the record since she said she was not guilty of these criminal charges back in 2006.
