One of the jurors who served as an alternate in the criminal trial of Dr. Priscilla Slade spoke publicly after being excused from the case. Doug Blanchard was questioned by reporters Monday afternoon outside the courthouse. The Insite asked Blanchard, who serves as a Chief Financial Officer of a local company, if there was anything that bothered him while hearing testimony in the 8 week long trial. Blanchard quickly responded, “$500,000 is not peanuts.” He’s referring to statements made by Precinct 7 Justice of the Peace Zinetta Burney. When Burney was questioned by prosecutor Donna Goode she testified the amount Slade is accused of misusing was peanuts compared to what other universities spend. Blanchard said in any business $500,000 is not peanuts and he took issue with Judge Burney equating the amount to that!
