EVEN AFTER THE BOND ELECTION THE FIGHT IS NOT OVER!
The Insite has learned State Representative Sylvester Turner is calling for an audit of the Houston Independent School District. Turner says he has a lot of questions about how the district does business. He points to a recent Houston Chronicle article that indicates a lot of schools in poorer districts are without basics like books. Turner went on to say he has problems with the leadership at the school district. He says trustees have not been willing to work with the community and has done little to question how individual schools are funded. A formula Turner feels is flawed. The state rep has asked state auditors to investigate the finances and performance of the school district. HISD responded with this statement:
HISD welcomes any review by any member of the Legislature. We are very proud of the independent state review that recently showed HISD getting the highest rating possible for its financial management, and new national test results that show HISD beating most other urban school districts in American in academic performance. We thank Representative Turner for his interest in our district.
HISD Press Secretary.
What do you think – is it time HISD endure a state audit? The last time HISD had an audit accoridng to Turners was back in 1996!
