A MAN TRYING TO PROTECT HIS FAMILY FACES A FELONY INDICTMENT!

SHOULD WADIE SPIKES HAVE TO GO TO PRISON FOR KEEPING HIS FAMILY SAFE?

If you watched FOX 26 news at 9 Wednesday night then you know Wadie Spikes story. He’s a husband, father, and grandfather who said he was trying to protect his family from Pit bulls when he ended up being charged with animal cruelty – a felony. Spikes says back on November 8 his daughter and two grandchildren found themselves trapped inside of their car in front of his house. The neighbor’s two pit bulls were charging the car. Spikes heard the screaming from inside his home. He came out and realized what was going on. He tried to run the dogs off but they began charging Spikes and his wife. So Wadie says he went into his home and got his pistol. He says he fired at the dogs several times but he missed. Spikes and his daughter Erma say the dogs charged them at least a half dozen times. Spikes says he then asked his wife to get his shotgun. He then made it to his truck and drove down to the home where the owner of the dog’s lived. Spikes says he couldn’t find the owner just a friend outside who told him he couldn’t control the dogs. Spikes, sitting inside his vehicle, says as he was talking with that friend of the owner one of the pit bulls lodged at his truck. Spikes says he panicked and shot the dog. The animal died. Spikes, who called HPD out to the scene, was arrested. The 58 year old who had never been in trouble in his life, was charged with animal cruelty – a felony – and booked into jail on the spot. He had to spend 5 days in jail until his family could raise $20,000 in bail. When The Insite met with Spikes he actually began crying because of the turmoil he has encountered because of the incident. He says he feels like he’s the victim after attempting to protect his family. Prosecutor Belinda Smith says she will take the case before the grand jury next week. What do you think about Spikes situation?
