GUEST BLOGGER: TORREY ‘T-DUB’ WALKER!

IS THIS THE MESSAGE WE REALLY WANT TO SEND TO YOUNG PEOPLE?

On my way to into a convenience store on Thursday an advertisement in the window caught my eye. It read ANTI-ENERGY DRINK. My immediate thought was why would people want to drink something that puts them to sleep and not keep them awake. So, I decided to fully read the the advertisement. When I finished I was disappointed at what I just read. The product’s purpose was to emulate Sizzurp or LEAN which is codeine poured into soda. The effects of this drug gives you a mild sedative state and of course it’s illegal. So my question is why would someone make something for kids or anybody else to pretend like they’re doing drugs? This is sort of like somebody coming out with a soft drink in the shape of a 40 oz bottle. Someone actually came up with this concept and design but did they ever stop to think about the negative image that their product gives off?

And yes, I do remember candy cigarettes when I was younger. I wanted some because that’s what I saw people on T.V. puffing and other adults doing. I’m sure they didn’t know how harmful they really were!

Question: Have advertising agencies and product producers gone too far?
