A STUDENT HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS THE SHOOTER!
Baton Rouge police say a young woman killed two female students in a classroom at a vo-tech college today, then killed herself. One of the victims was a mother of three.
Sergeant Don Kelly with Baton Rouge police says the shooter was 23 years old, while the two victims were 21 and 27 years old. He says all three were students at the Louisiana Technical College campus, but the motive is not clear.
One of the victims, 27-year-old Taneisha Butler, was a mother of three. Her husband, who arrived on the scene, said his wife was a nursing student. The couple’s three children are 4, 9, and 12 years old.
The school says ICare counselors are currently on-site providing support for students, faculty, staff, and family members.
Officials say classes have been canceled for the remainder of the day, and an announcement will be made regarding classes resuming for next week.
Kelly says the first two women killed apparently were in their seats in the second-floor classroom. The incident happened shortly after 8:30 a.m. Kelly says Baton Rouge police got many cell phone calls saying people had been shot!
