HOW DID YOUR FAVORITE LOCAL CHANNEL DO IN ELECTION NIGHT COVERAGE?

The numbers are in between 9 and 10 p.m., 28.2 percent of the area’s 2.05 million households — about 578,000 — watched election coverage on five television stations plus the three major cable news networks.

From 10 to 10:30 p.m., with Spanish-language KXLN (Channel 45) tossed into the mix, the audience hit 37.7 percent, or about 773,000 households. That’s only a few thousand households less than the average local audience for Super Bowl XLII last month.

KTRK (Channel 13) was the ratings winner, with a 6.6 rating from 8:30 to 10 p.m., according to Nielsen Media Research, and an 8.1 rating from 10 to 10:30 p.m. KHOU (Channel 11) rated 5.0 from 9 to 10 and 7.1 from 10 to 10:45 p.m. KRIV (Channel 26) had a 4.4 rating from 9 to 10 p.m. to 3.0 for KPRC (Channel 2) and 1.5 for KHCW (Channel 39).

On the cable side, CNN was the local leader with a 3.3 rating from 7 p.m. to midnight. Fox News rated 2.9, and MSNBC had a 1.0 rating for the same five hours!
