$15,000 IN CAMPAIGN FUNDS USED TO CHARTER A PRIVATE PLANE: JUSTIFIED OR NOT!

CRADDICK EXPLAINING HIS LUXURY FLIGHT AT THE EXPENSE OF DONORS!

Texas House Speaker Tom Craddick used about $15,000 in campaign funds to charter a private plane from Aspen, Colorado, to Houston. The Dallas Morning News today reports the money also paid to take Craddick’s wife with him to a conference in Lithuania. A spokeswoman says Republican Craddick’s expenditures were legitimate. Alexis DeLee says Craddick was unable to get a commercial flight from Coloradao when state Representative Glenda Dawson died in the fall of 2006. The Lithuanian conference Nadine Craddick attended with her husband — at a cost of $1,800 in air fare — was a gathering of legislative leaders. The travel is the subject of an ethics complaint against the Republican speaker from Midland. The Texas Ethics Commission will consider the complaint brought by an analyst for the Web site noethics.net
