JANIS BENTON SAYS THE NUMBER IS CHANGING AT HOUSTON’S CITY HALL!

SAY GOOD BYE TO THE 713 AND HELLO TO 832!

The City of Houston Information Technology Department will replace the aging phone system at City Hall and the City Hall Annex, a transition that will require changes in phone numbers at City Hall.

The change will replace a phone system that is no longer being supported by the manufacturer and move City Hall from the historic “713” area code to an “832” area code. The switch begins in mid-March and is expected to be completed by the end of the month.

City IT officials are working to make the transition easier for Houstonians who contact officials at City Hall and the City Hall Annex for services and business.

For six months following completion of the change, citizens will be able to call the old numbers and get a recording that will provide the new number, then switch you automatically to the person you dialed. Citizens are being asked to take note of new numbers.

The city’s “3-1-1” system will continue to be the primary way to call to get information or to request city services.
