HOUSTON’S FIRST LADY IS KICKING OFF HER BOOK TOUR!

ANDREA WHITE’S LATEST: WINDOW BOY!

Release: Our city’s First Lady Andrea White is an award-winning author of young adult novels. Her second, “Window Boy,” comes out April 1 and she will have three book signings and several school appearances.

The book is an outgrowth of her admiration and desire to write about Winston Churchill and about basketball in the hopes that her hoop-enthusiast youngest son might then read her book! She brings that together with the protagonist, young Sam Davis, who watches the junior high school basketball team practice at the school outside his window (and outside his ability to attend) with his cerebral palsy keeping him in his wheel chair with greatly impaired motor skills.

It’s a great story about adversity and perseverance–as shown by Sam and his omniscient “adviser” Winston “Winnie” Churchill; about issues, especially in 1968 when the story is set, with educating severely handicapped children in mainstream school; institutionalization; family life and how one can survive as a “whole” person and have a long and productive life.
