AFTER TWO YEARS, IT’S OVER!
Wednesday afternoon Harris County prosecutors and attorneys for Dr. Priscilla Slade met in court to hammer out an agreement. A plea agreement to prevent a second trial of the former TSU President. She was accused of misusing hundreds of thousands of dollars in TSU money to fund what prosecutors call a lavish lifestyle. Slade’s last trial ended with a hung jury. Prosecutors apparently didn’t want to take a chance on that. Both sides agreed to this: Slade would enter a plea of no contest. She was given 10 years of deferred adjudication, 400 hours of community service, and required to pay TSU $127,000 in restitution. Prosecutors say Slade has 10 years to pay off the $127,000. That comes to about $12,700 a year. Slade’s defense attorney Mike DeGeurin said initially prosecutors wanted his client to pay $2.5 million in restitution. Assistant District Attorney Julian Ramirez says if Slade doesn’t hold up her end of the bargain she could be hauled back into court for violating the agreement. As for Slade, the former President said she apologized for what happened on her watch and if she could do it all over again she would. Slade also says she’s now working with as a consultant, thanked God and walked away from the courthouse!
