THE FBI NEEDS YOUR HELP TO CATCH THE RED HANDED BANDIT!

THIS IS HIS FIFTH WITHDRAWAL!

The FBI Bank Robbery Task Force is once again seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the “Red Handed Bandit” who is now suspected in at least five area bank robberies. The latest occurred this morning at the Comerica Bank located at 1503 Eldridge Parkway in Houston, Texas. During this robbery, the “Red Handed Bandit” wore a color coordinated blue and white baseball cap and blue and white gloves, but handed a teller a red bag. In previous robberies, he wore red gloves and handed a teller a red towel to place the money in.

During this morning’s robbery, the black male entered the bank alone around 9:15 a.m. and pulled out the red bag from under his shirt, placed it on the counter, and verbally threatened the teller to turn over the cash. The teller, fearing for her life, gave the “Red Handed Bandit” some cash. He then exited the bank on foot. No one was physically hurt during the robbery.

The “Red Handed Bandit” is described as a black male, approximately 26 to 35 years old, 6’ – 6’5”tall, 210-240 pounds with a muscular or athletic build. During this latest robbery, he wore a long sleeved striped tee-shirt, dark colored pants, a blue and white baseball cap, and blue and white colored gloves. In each of the previous robberies, the “Red Handed Bandit” matched the colors of the baseball caps he wore with the colors of the gloves he wore. Previous color combinations included red, black, and white caps and gloves.

The “Red Handed Bandit” is also suspected in the robbery of the Washington Mutual Bank at 14565 Memorial Drive on 01/16/2008, the robbery of the IBC Bank at 1545 Eldridge Parkway on 01/26/2008, the attempted robbery of the Washington Mutual Bank at 13070 Bellaire Boulevard on 02/15/2008, and the robbery of the IBC Bank located inside the Kroger Grocery Store at 10570 Highway 6 in Sugarland, Texas on 03/20/2008.

Crime Stoppers is offering up to $5,000.00 for information leading to the charging and arrest of the “Red Handed Bandit”. If you have any information regarding any of these robberies, please call the Crime Stoppers Hotline at 713-222-TIPS (8477), or the Houston office of the FBI at 713-693-5000.

IS IT THE FINAL NAIL IN THE COFFIN FOR ROGER CLEMENS?

A LONG TIME RELATIONSHIP WITH A YOUNG COUNTRY STAR!

Roger Clemens had a decade-long relationship with country star Mindy McCready that began when she was a 15-year-old aspiring singer and the pitcher was a Boston Red Sox ace, the Daily News reported.

“I cannot refute anything in the story,” McCready told the newspaper in a story posted on its Web site Monday night.

“I have known Roger Clemens for a long time,” she said, without detailing the nature of their relationship.

Clemens’ lawyer, Rusty Hardin, confirmed the pitcher and singer had known each other for a long time but told the newspaper there was no sex.

“Mindy McCready is a longtime family friend of Roger Clemens and the Clemens family,” Hardin said in a statement Monday. “At no time did Roger engage in any kind of inappropriate or improper relationship with her. It is unfortunate that the Daily News has chosen to report anonymous allegations that are completely unfounded, have no basis in fact, and have nothing to do with Roger’s baseball career or the issue of steroid use in baseball.”

The News’ original story, which appeared on the newspaper’s Web site Sunday night and in editions Monday, quoted several people who asked not to be identified because of the sensitivity of the situation.

Clemens was 28 and a married father of two when he first met McCready, the newspaper reported.

In its story Monday night, sources told the News that McCready went with Clemens to his hotel room in Fort Myers, Fla., after their first meeting but that they did not have sex. The relationship turned intimate after she later moved to Nashville and became a country star, the paper said.

The story could undermine Clemens’ reputation, which is central to the defamation suit the former pitcher has filed against former personal trainer Brian McNamee. McNamee contends Clemens used performance-enhancing substances during his major league career.

“If true, it’s just another example of Roger’s pervasive prevarications which will be at the core of any defamation case,” said McNamee’s attorney, Richard Emery, in an e-mail to The Associated Press.

“If the case heads to trial and is not dismissed, as we feel it should be, we will be calling (McCready) as a witness,” Emery told the News.

The newspaper said Clemens sent cash to McCready to help her with legal issues and reached out to her when she was in jail last year in Tennessee. Clemens sometimes sent her amounts of $25,000, the paper said.

The 32-year-old McCready was sentenced last September for violating probation from a 2004 drug arrest and was released from jail last Dec. 30. The violation occurred in July when McCready was accused of scuffling with her mother and resisting arrest at her mother’s home in Fort Myers, Fla. She still must serve two years’ probation.

McCready had a No. 1 single in 1996 with “Guys Do It All the Time.”

WHY IS MCDONALD’S SELLING BAGS OF ICE?

I’LL TAKE A NUMBER 1 AND A BAG OF ICE!

When was the last time you were in a McDonald’s drive thru and suddenly remembered you needed a bag of ice? Did you purchase it from them? I’ve never thought about buying bags of ice from the fast food chain. But I do have to admit – McDonald’s ice is very cheap. I bought a bag of ice in Baton Rouge this weekend from Circle K for the first time in a long time. How much was it? Almost $3!

I FOUND MY PET PEEVE AT HOUSTON’S CITY HALL!

$5.00 OR WE CAN’T ACCEPT YOUR CARD!

I’ve written about this before – so here goes again. I’ve warned Insite readers it is against MasterCard and Visa policies to make you spend a certain amount on money to use your credit or debit cards. I’ve even showed you a copy of the actual policy. That rule stated if you find someone requiring a minimum purchase to use your credit or debit card, it should be reported to the credit card companies. Now, I guess I have to make that call against the city of Houston. I was in the city’s gift shop / Visitor’s Center Tuesday when I noticed a sign near the check out area. It read – Credit / Debit Card Purchases Minimum $5.00. I don’t know why the city has chosen to break the credit card rule but they have. There is a cost associated with accepting credit / debit cards but there is a benefit to accepting them – you get more business from those who don’t carry cash. I think the city should remove that sign and follow the rules. What if you can’t afford to buy $5.00 worth of stuff from the Visitor’s Center?
The Rules:

Visa says its bylaws clearly state that merchants must not establish a minimum transaction amount. That’s done, “To protect Visa cardholders so they can expect to use their cards anywhere, anyhow and anytime Visa is accepted,” says a spokesman.

“If Visa finds out about a violation, Visa will issue an enforcement letter to the acquiring bank that enables the merchant to accept the card. It’s up to the acquirer as to how to deal with the merchant.”

MasterCard is also emphatic about dealing with violations although MasterCard deals with them directly.

What you do the next time you’re told there’s a minimum to use a credit card probably depends on how you feel about the issue. If you’re sympathetic toward the merchant’s plight you’ll save the card for bigger purchases.

On the other hand, if you’re trying to rack up every cent on your credit card for more frequent flier miles, you might rustle up your best steely eyed gaze and say, “That’s not allowed.”

If you’d rather complain with less fanfare, write to Visa at askvisacorporate@visa.com. MasterCard complaints will be accepted at 1-800-300-3069.

WHERE’S THAT SNOTTY HOLLYWOOD ATTITUDE NOW!

JUST TELL THE PEOPLE THEY DON’T HAVE TO PAY TO GET IN!

If any of you have had run ins with the “people” of some celebrities you know how snotty ‘some’ and I do mean some of them can be. They will keep you waiting forever if their client has a hit movie, record or book. It’s what The Insite calls that ‘snotty Hollywood‘ attitude. Recently I was at a local venue where there was a not so hot celebrity. How not hot were they? I heard the handlers or their ‘people’ outside scrambling on the phone to a local radio station. They told someone on the other call they desperately needed more people to fill the hall. They told that person to let radio listeners know they could now get in free of charge. They were very desperate to get the place to a decent number of attendees. I thought to myself as I watched all of these people with Blackberries and PDA’s run around – where is that snotty Hollywood attitude now? Just something The Insite noticed!

THESE ARE THE PEOPLE WHO REALLY GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY!

VOLUNTEER INTERFAITH CAREGIVERS APPRECIATION DINNER!

If you ever lose confidence in people and society in general there’s a place you need to go. You should visit the offices of Volunteer Interfaith Caregivers – Southwest. It’s a group of people who give of their time freely to help the elderly in our community. I just can’t articulate how impressed I was with this organization. These are people who dedicate – individually – hundreds of hours and they drive thousands of miles annually to help the seniors in our community. They held an appreciation dinner for those who volunteer. I had the absolute pleasure and honor of serving as their emcee. These people are amazing and renew my faith in society in general. In my humble opinion these volunteers are not getting the recognition they deserve for going above and beyond the call of duty in Houston. But the dinner honoring them is a start. I have a feeling they’re in for bigger rewards down the road. Some of the heroes I met today were: Anne Pieniazcek, Annette Bisanz, Joann Brown, Carolyn Bhansali, Belinda Sherrouse, Herschel Vinyard, Richard Grammens, Mary Jean Grammens, Paula Ruth, Buddy Gomez, Marie Romero, Peter Nguyen, Kathy Danforth, Don Hoyt, Ira Landry, Ann Landry, and Vanessa Southard. The entertainment was provided former American Idol contestant and Houston resident Altonet Malbrough. The event was great and I’m truly grateful I had a chance to meet those who give until they can’t give any more!

POLICE SAY FATHER STABS HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT THREE TIMES AFTER DAUGHTER WAS ALLEGEDLY ATTACKED!

DID THE FATHER GO TOO FAR OR WOULD YOU HAVE DONE THE SAME?

An Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon charge was filed against a father after Spring school district officials said the man stabbed a student who may have witnessed the sexual assault of his daughter.

“I wouldn’t expect that from an adult to a kid.” Spring ISD parent Ken Spoleti said.

Ruben Carlos Quellar, his wife and daughter checked in at Wunsche High School’s front desk shortly before 8:30 a.m. Monday to talk with school administrators about the girl’s alleged sexual assault over the weekend by a male student. The alleged assault did not take place on campus.

An official with the Spring Independent School District told FOX 26 News that the family was standing in the security lobby area outside of the doors of the main entrance of the school when a student, who the girls’ father believed was present when the alleged assault took place, walked into the school, about an hour after classes had started.

School officials said that was when the girl’s father stabbed the student three times with a knife.

“A campus police officer was nearby when the incident occurred and very quickly intervened and arrested the man,” school district Spokeswoman Karen Garrison said. “Everything happened in the lobby outside of the doors to the main campus. Other students were not in danger or anywhere near that.”

She added that and that a note to parents will be sent home with students on Monday.

“I’m stunned I thought it was a student to a student, which happens,” Spoleti said. “I didn’t expect that to happen here; one of the reasons we have our daughter here is to avoid that kind of stuff.”

The stabbing victim was taken to a hospital in The Woodlands, where he was listed in good condition.

The girl’s parents had reported the sexual assault to Harris County Constable Precinct 4 over the weekend, according to the school spokesperson.

There were no records Monday afternoon to indicate whether Quellar had an attorney. Garrison said the Harris County Sheriff’s Department is still investigating the alleged sexual assault.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO THE TRAFFIC QUEEN: ERIN ANTHONY!

SINGING LIKE WE ALL HAD A FUTURE IN IT!

Several people packed into a private room at Spotlight Karaoke Friday night in southwest Houston. It was a very special occasion. The purpose was to celebrate the birthday of FOX 26 traffic guru Erin Anthony. And boy did everyone have a good time. Nearly every person in the room took to the stage and sang a few songs. Believe it or not the Insite even made it through one Tom Jones, two Lou Rawls and one Vandross song. Top that! But I wasn’t alone. Also entertaining the crowd were Damali Keith, Sibila Vargas, Erin Anthony, Alex Supgul, Dana Davis, Lynn Morrow, Heather Jones and the list goes on. Torrey ‘T-Dub’ Walker and Kevin Collins were also on hand for the celebration. Erin also had several of her long time friends in town for her big day. It was a whole lot of fun. Some of us sang like we had a future in the music biz. Happy Birthday Erin!
