An Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon charge was filed against a father after Spring school district officials said the man stabbed a student who may have witnessed the sexual assault of his daughter.
“I wouldn’t expect that from an adult to a kid.” Spring ISD parent Ken Spoleti said.
Ruben Carlos Quellar, his wife and daughter checked in at Wunsche High School’s front desk shortly before 8:30 a.m. Monday to talk with school administrators about the girl’s alleged sexual assault over the weekend by a male student. The alleged assault did not take place on campus.
An official with the Spring Independent School District told FOX 26 News that the family was standing in the security lobby area outside of the doors of the main entrance of the school when a student, who the girls’ father believed was present when the alleged assault took place, walked into the school, about an hour after classes had started.
School officials said that was when the girl’s father stabbed the student three times with a knife.
“A campus police officer was nearby when the incident occurred and very quickly intervened and arrested the man,” school district Spokeswoman Karen Garrison said. “Everything happened in the lobby outside of the doors to the main campus. Other students were not in danger or anywhere near that.”
She added that and that a note to parents will be sent home with students on Monday.
“I’m stunned I thought it was a student to a student, which happens,” Spoleti said. “I didn’t expect that to happen here; one of the reasons we have our daughter here is to avoid that kind of stuff.”
The stabbing victim was taken to a hospital in The Woodlands, where he was listed in good condition.
The girl’s parents had reported the sexual assault to Harris County Constable Precinct 4 over the weekend, according to the school spokesperson.
There were no records Monday afternoon to indicate whether Quellar had an attorney. Garrison said the Harris County Sheriff’s Department is still investigating the alleged sexual assault.
