VOLUNTEER INTERFAITH CAREGIVERS APPRECIATION DINNER!
If you ever lose confidence in people and society in general there’s a place you need to go. You should visit the offices of Volunteer Interfaith Caregivers – Southwest. It’s a group of people who give of their time freely to help the elderly in our community. I just can’t articulate how impressed I was with this organization. These are people who dedicate – individually – hundreds of hours and they drive thousands of miles annually to help the seniors in our community. They held an appreciation dinner for those who volunteer. I had the absolute pleasure and honor of serving as their emcee. These people are amazing and renew my faith in society in general. In my humble opinion these volunteers are not getting the recognition they deserve for going above and beyond the call of duty in Houston. But the dinner honoring them is a start. I have a feeling they’re in for bigger rewards down the road. Some of the heroes I met today were: Anne Pieniazcek, Annette Bisanz, Joann Brown, Carolyn Bhansali, Belinda Sherrouse, Herschel Vinyard, Richard Grammens, Mary Jean Grammens, Paula Ruth, Buddy Gomez, Marie Romero, Peter Nguyen, Kathy Danforth, Don Hoyt, Ira Landry, Ann Landry, and Vanessa Southard. The entertainment was provided former American Idol contestant and Houston resident Altonet Malbrough. The event was great and I’m truly grateful I had a chance to meet those who give until they can’t give any more!
