    Hello,
I am the sole survivor for my brother Michael Jenkins, who is mentally challenged. He was terminated from the Houston Housing Authority list on October 2011. My brother has been trying to pay for his apartment out of his SSI money. Michael is responsible for paying $560 per month plus his additional utilities of electric and gas. Michael is struggling each month trying to pay, for his apartment. Micahel only receives 650 a month. He only has enough money to pay the rent. He was kicked off the housing list, because he missed the initial deadline for him to recertify his annual paperwork for housing. I submitted the second notice to the housing office by the deadline that was posted on the letter my brother received. The employee at the front desk stated that I couldn’t turn in the paperwork. She stated that the letter was late, because the letter was submitted to housing authority on the final date. I was terrified with the lady at the front desk. I called housing the next day to explain what happened regarding the paperwork that I brought to the housing office. After speaking to housing authority manager she stated that my brother would be taken off the housing list, and they would no longer pay after November 2011. Michael can not continue to pay the full rent based on the amount of money that he makes. I would like to know if someone can help with this situation. I don’t believe that it’s right to treat a mentally challenged individual this way. Michael isn’t able to speak to anyone regarding his situation.
    Thanks,
    Shirley Gerard for Michael Jenkins
