Harris County officials say they plan to hold a news conference around 7:30 a.m. Thursday to discuss possible evacuations for some county residents, evacuation routes and possibly opening contraflow lanes. Meanwhile, five nearby counties have already jumped the gun and issued mandatory and voluntary evacuations.
Brazoria County has issued a mandatory evacuation for all of its residents, and parts of Galveston, Chambers, Matagorda and Jackson counties have been placed under mandatory evacuation beginning Thursday morning.
Residents in Brazoria County are under mandatory evacuation beginning 8 a.m. Thursday.
About 10,000 people living in Galveston’s low lying west end are now under a mandatory evacuation order beginning at 7 a.m. Thursday. The city of Galveston and the majority of the rest of the county are under voluntary evacuations.
